Tas: Chinese student murder accused plead not guilty

HOBART, Aug 19 AAP - Two men charged with murdering a Chinese university student in
Hobart have pleaded not guilty.

Police say accountancy student Zhang Yu, 26, was murdered inside a Hobart unit after
a chance meeting with the men during a night out on June 25.

Hobart men Stavros Papadopoulos and Daniel Williams, both 21, each entered pleas of
not guilty on Wednesday during brief appearances in the Hobart Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Michael Hill remanded the men in custody until their next court appearance
in the Hobart Supreme Court on September 21.

Detectives say they were led to Ms Yu's body, in a river 60km west of Hobart, five
days after she went missing.

Police allege Ms Yu was struck on the head.

Her family took her ashes home to Wenzhou, China, after inviting the people of Hobart
to her funeral on July 11.
