Fed: Costello says Olympics contributed to decline in business

Federal Treasurer PETER COSTELLO says the Sydney Olympics had contributed to a decline
in business confidence despite the boost to growth in the quarter.

Mr COSTELLO says while the Games led to increased expenditure on sport and recreation,
it probably led to decreased expenditure on alternatives.

He says while the Olympics were good for people involved in the Games, those outside
Sydney probably experienced a downturn.
