NSW: Bushfire season starts today, two months early

The New South Wales bushfire season officially begins today, two months earlier than
last year because of the state's ongoing drought.

New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner PHIL KOPERBERG will officially declare
the state of fire season at RFS headquarters in western Sydney's Rose Hill.

Mr KOPERBERG says failure to obtain a fire permit will result in fines up to $5,500
or prison terms.
