NSW: Police to question "road-rage" stabbing victim's wife today

SYDNEY, April 22 AAP - The wife of a man stabbed at least 20 times in a suspected road-rageattack in Sydney's south will be interviewed by police today.

A police spokesman said the woman, who was with her 37-year-old husband and baby atthe time of the attack, had been too distressed yesterday to talk to police.

Police believe her husband was attacked by up to three men as he crossed a busy intersectionwith his wife and baby at Hurstville on Saturday night.

A confrontation occurred at the intersection, with two or three men of Middle Easternappearance setting on the victim in a "particularly vicious attack", according to Hurstvillepolice Inspector Peter Jamieson.

The victim was stabbed between 20 and 30 times all over his body with a single-bladedknife about 10cm long, Insp. Jamieson said.

Police carried out extensive door-knocking operation in the area yesterday and thismorning renewed their appeal for anyone with information to come forward and help withtheir inquiries.

Information was also being sought about the stolen registration plates (XUE-836) ofthe white sedan being driven by the men, the police spokesman said today.

The victim remains in a critical hospital in St George Hospital.
